The Place Name
In the medieval period, the parish is named variously Hesintune, Assiston, and Aston. It first appears as Pipe Aston in the 1841 census apparently confirming a local usage almost certainly recording folk tradition of the pipe making industry which played an important part in the economy from mid seventeenth to mid eighteenth centuries.
