Chemical tests have been carried out on the clays used for the manufacture of the tobacco pipes and wig curlers. These have been compared with similar tests from within the parish of Pipe Aston to Peters Marland in North Devon. The closest match has been with coal measure clays from the Ironbridge Gorge.
